Council
The Council undertakes a wide range of
activities, amongst which is the promotion of the efficient use
of energy in the home. Reducing the amount of energy used in the
home reduces the amount of harmful gasses released into the atmosphere;
it can also reduce fuel bills and can improve living standards.
Free, impartial advice on how you could improve
the energy efficiency of your home is available from the Council
together with details of grants towards the cost of carrying out
improvements.
You may ask “Why should I improve the energy
efficiency of my home?”
There are three reasons:-
1. To reduce the risks to your health
2. To save money
3. To reduce the damage to the environment.
Your home and your health
Fact – Below 16°C respiratory illnesses such
as asthma are more likely.
Below 12°C there can be an increased risk of heart attacks
and strokes.
Below 6°C hypothermia can occur after 2 hours.
Your home and your pocket
Fact - 35% of the heat lost from an un-insulated house
is lost through the walls and 25% through the roof.
Changing habits can save you money without costing you a penny.
Your home and the environment
Fact - On average 8 tonnes of carbon dioxide (one of the
gases that contributes to the greenhouse effect) is released into
the atmosphere every year to produce the energy for every house
in the UK.
Improving the energy efficiency of your home could,
therefore, reduce the risks to your health, save you money and protect
the environment.
